What does the Bible teach about the Trinity
The triune God or Trinity is the central Christian doctrine that there is one God who exists as three distinct, co-equal, and co-eternal Persons—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit—sharing one divine nature. Derived from Latin tri (three) and unus (one), it means “three-in-one,” where each person is fully God, yet they are not three separate gods.

Key Aspects of the Triune God:
One Essence, Three Persons: God is one in substance or essence but exists as three persons (hypostases).
Distinct Roles:
Father: Initiates, creates, and sustains all things.
Son (Jesus Christ) manifested in the flesh as the begotten son of God! accomplishes salvation.
Holy Spirit: The active presence and power of God, applying salvation and drawing people to God.
Relationship: The three persons exist in perfect, eternal communion and relationship with each other.
Not Parts: The Trinity is not one God divided into three parts, but rather, each person is wholly God.

While the term “triune” or “Trinity” does not appear in the Bible, it is considered a revealed truth through scripture, such as at Jesus’ baptism (Matthew 3:16-17)

The Supreme Authority of the Bible (Sola Scriptura)

The Centrality of Jesus Christ (Solus Christus)
The church is “Jesus-centered,” focusing on the gospel message that Jesus Christ is both fully God and fully human, who came to rescue sinners. Salvation is believed to be solely through His substitutionary death and resurrection.
Salvation by Grace Alone (Sola Gratia / Sola Fide)
Free churches teach that salvation is a gift from God, received by faith alone, not through human effort or merit. This often includes a commitment to reformed evangelical doctrines, emphasizing that only the Holy Spirit can bring a person to faith.

The Freedom and Priesthood of Believers
The church is “free” from state, government, or external interference in its theological or operational decisions.

It is a “believers’ church,” meaning membership is based on a personal confession of faith in Jesus, and all members share in the ministry priesthood of all believers.

The Headship of Christ and Local Autonomy
The church believes that Jesus Christ alone is the head of the church.

While often organized under an Evangelical Lutheran system connected through presbyteries or in congregational autonomy, they are self-governing and accountable to Christ rather than a state or bishop.
